How do I know if I need to meet with an academic advisor or a counselor?  What is the difference?

  • Academic advisors are degreed professionals who help with any academic needs you have including degree and schedule planning.  Academic advisors are a valuable resource to help you connect with available support services on your campus.
  • Counselors are degreed mental health professionals who can assist you with any issue that may be impeding your academic success.
  • Counselors also develop an academic success plan to re-enter TCC after academic suspension or to restore your eligibility for financial aid. You can check your WebAdvisor account by clicking on the Academic Standing link. If you are on academic suspension or academic dismissal, you will be required to meet with a counselor.
  • Help with personal problems or issues that may come up during the semester. Counseling appointments are scheduled in the

Advising and Counseling Center on your campus. To make an appointment with a Counselor, you will need to call 817-515-4ADV (4238). Counselors are not listed on this page.
