Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is there a certain Academic Advisor I need to see?

There are Academic Advisors and Career and Technical Advisors (known as CTE Advisors). The CTE Advisors advise students in all aspects of Career Education for certificates and specialized degree programs (such as Nursing, Culinary Arts, GIS, Dietetics, Automotive Technology). Please see our list of Technical programs and CTE Academic Advisors Bottom . If you are earning your Associate of Arts degree and plan to transfer to a University, you should make an appointment with an Academic Advisor.

Q. How can I schedule an appointment to see an Academic Advisor?

You may schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor or CTE Advisor by clicking on the “schedule an appointment” tab at the top. You may click on “Go to list view” to see a list of available appointments. If there is nothing listed on a certain day, there are no appointments open for that day. Be sure to change the drop down menu to the campus where you want to set your appointment.

Q. What days and times can I see an Academic Advisor?

Appointments should be scheduled in advance of your visit since same day appointments are limited and may require substantial wait times.  All Advising and Counseling Centers are open Mondays - Thursdays, 8:00am - 7:00pm, Fridays, 9:00am-6:30pm, and Saturdays, 9:00am-1:00pm.   The office hours listed here do not include campus closures due to holidays or inclement weather days. Extended hours may be offered during registration periods.  Contact the Advising and Counseling Center on your campus for more details.

Q. How long is my appointment?

The appointment you make with an Academic Advisor is set for 30 minutes. For example, if you set an appointment for 10:00-10:30am, your appointment will start at 10:00am. You should arrive at least 5-10 minutes early for your appointment. Be sure to check-in at the front desk. If you are more than 10 minutes late for your appointment you may have to reschedule.

Q. How do I cancel or reschedule an appointment?

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, click on the “Calendar” tab at the top of the page. It will have your appointment listed, simply click the “cancel” button to cancel it. Cancellations should be made at least 24 hours in advance when possible. You may then click on the “Schedule an appointment” tab to reschedule.

Q. How do I know if I need to meet with an Academic Advisor or a Counselor? What is the difference?

Academic Advisors and CTE Advisors are degreed professionals who help with any academic needs you have including degree and schedule planning.  Academic Advisors are a valuable resource to help you connect with available support services on your campus.

Counselors are Master’s level mental health professionals who can assist you with any issue that may be impeding your academic success.

Counselors are the staff members who can work with you to develop an Academic Success Plan to re-enter TCC after academic suspension or to restore your eligibility for financial aid. You can check your WebAdvisor account by clicking on the “Academic Standing” link. If you are on Suspension or Dismissal, you will be required to meet with a Counselor.
